The next generation of the MINI CLUBMAN hatchback can turn into a crossover. About this in an interview with Autocar told the chief designer of the brand Oliver Halemer. This step is the brand’s management expects to increase the sales of MINI cars in the North American market.

At the moment one crossover brand is available on the local market — Countryman. According to Americans, the dimensions of the model do not correspond to its high price tag. This pushed the company’s management to create a full-size crossover based on the Mini Clubman hatchback. From the base model, it will differ in enhanced dimensions and overestimated road lumen. As a result, MINI will have two almost identical crossover, which will compete with each other. As the company plans to avoid internal competition, Hayylmer did not specify. The designer refused to talk about the prospects of electric minivan, which is called the successor to BMW i3.

At the same time, Hayylmer reported that the three-door hatchback mini cooper next generation could become even less. The final decision on this issue will be adopted next year, although the decrease in the dimensions of the model will entail problems with electrification and a decrease in the level of harmful emissions, as well as problems with the search for potential buyers.
